ABOUT EMMA

emmaEmma Louise Hewson is a Toronto-based singer/pianist/songwriter, who has made herself known as a versatile session musician, teacher, and original artist.

Emma’s background in music developed from a foundation of 12 years of classical piano, before pursuing a music degree at York University in Toronto in 2008. There, she experimented with jazz and free improvisation.

Outside of formal education, Emma was also honing her unique style of original music,  playing intricate, jazzy piano grooves while singing with a heavy R&B influence. Her first EP, EMMA, was released in 2014 (http://emmalouisehewson.bandcamp.com/).

Currently, Emma is a teacher, freelance musician, and is part of several performing projects. These currently include North of Daptone (A 9-piece Sharon Jones tribute act), the Doxy duo (a jazz, pop, and Rnb duo suitable for corporate and private events), and the Backtrack band (a wedding/corporate band led by Marty Zatzman). She’s previously  performed in the Julia Tynes band, Shrinehouse (an Amy Winehouse Tribute), Vallens, Ellevator, and more.

Emma also plays solo around town, often at La Rev restaurant in the Junction as part of an ongoing residency, and occasionally performing all original music with a larger band as well. Stay tuned!
